Each College Reach Out Program is led by a public school teacher coordinator who meets with the participants at least twice a month, supporting them academically, recording their program and school related activities, progress, and encouraging them to reach toward high school graduation and a post-secondary education. The FGCU College Reach Out Program supports numerous educational activities each academic school year including the following:
Annual Senior Recognition Ceremony: The Annual Ssenior Recognition Ceremony celebrates the achievements of program participants as well as sponsors and professional staff members. The College Reach Out seniors receive "Kente Scarves" to wear at their high school graduation; and some participants are awarded scholarships supported by donors including Regions Bank, Mediterra Group, the Duffus Family, and Florida Gulf Coast University.
Summer Program Experience: The Office of Outreach Programs has created a partnership between the College Reach Out Program and the Scholars Program to bring high school and middle school students to the University campus for summer school experiences. Some members have an opportunity to participate in the Close Up Washington, D.C. educational experience. Other participants attend summer program educational activities on the Florida Gulf Coast University campus.
Additional Activities include Leadership Retreats and Brain Bowl Competitions on the FGCU Campus plus high school junior and senior college tours throughout the State of Florida. The College Reach Out Program Coordinator and Assistant Director of Outreach Programs from FGCU visit school-based programs throughout the year to support the school coordinators in their efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate participants.
