Dean of Students

With nearly 25 years of experience in administrative positions in higher education, Dr. Yovanovich has served Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) as the Dean of Students since 2005. She is a founding staff member of FGCU having served as the inaugural Director of Admissions and Recruitment creating the office prior to the University’s opening in August of 1997. At times, in the early stages of the University’s development, Dr. Yovanovich directed undergraduate and graduate admissions, new student orientation and lower level student academic advisement. In 2003, Dean Yovanovich was asked by then President Merwin, to create the first Office of Alumni Relations in the University’s Foundation Office. While in this role, Yovanovich also edited the alumni magazine, managed the annual community and employee campaigns including the President’s Society, and worked on other fundraising projects. Prior to coming to FGCU, Yovanovich held a district administrative position in Student Affairs at Edison College, worked in Housing and Residence Life at the University of Miami and Housing at the University of Georgia where she also held positions as adjunct faculty at the three institutions.

Dean Yovanovich earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Secondary Education from Stetson University; Master’s Degree in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Georgia, and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. Dean Yovanovich’s research experience and interests include: roommate relationships, factors which effect student persistence and engagement and student crisis management.

Dr. Yovanovich was the recipient of the Titan Award indicating recognition as one of the most influential founding members of the University and was selected as Staff Member of the Year in 2006. Yovanovich is a graduate of Leadership Lee County. Dean Yovanovich is active nationally in professional organizations such as the Association of Student Conduct Administration and NASPA. She is an officer in her church and active in local philanthropic efforts with her family.

Julie Gleason

Julie Gleason

Director of Student Involvement

 Ms. Gleason joined the staff at Florida Gulf Coast University during the summer of 2007. She is originally from Freehold, New Jersey and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Pomona, NJ. She earned her Master of Science degree in Higher Education with a minor in Human Resources from The Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.  Gleason has worked in the areas of Residential Life and Greek Affairs since graduating with her Master's degree and now serves as the Director for the Office of Student Involvement. Gleason is an active member of the National Association of Student Personal Administration and the Association of Fraternity/ Sorority Advisors and a certified TIPS Trainer for alcohol education.

Cathy Doyle

Cathy Doyle

Director of Student Support Services and Outreach Programs

Ms Doyle joined Florida Gulf Coast University as Director of Student Support Services and Outreach Programs in December 2006 after serving three years as the Florida Marketing Director for CollEDGE Loans.   Doyle previously served as District Director for the Student Support Services Program, Students with Disabilities Program, and Single Parent Program at Edison College. Prior to that, Ms Doyle served as Director of Counseling, Advising, Assessment, Recruitment, and Career Center. These experiences enabled her to assist with the development and implementation of the Project Hope Program; a college-wide tutorial program; Upward Bound Program; Peer Mentoring Program, and the Child Care Center providing academic and personal support to underrepresented students.   Doyle has a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor's in English and History from the University of Charleston in West Virginia.  "The best part of being in education is the students.  I thrive on working with students and affecting their educational development in a learning environment such as Florida Gulf Coast University."

Cindy Lyons

Cindy Lyons

Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct

Mrs. Lyons has been working in Student Affairs for over six years. She is an alumnus of FGCU and completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Lyons first worked in Student Affairs at FGCU as a graduate assistant in the offices of Student Involvement, Greek Life, and Student Conduct.  Lyons was the Assistant Director of Greek Life for two years and assisted in many of the original expansion efforts of the FGCU Greek Life system.  Lyons is an active member of the Association for Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA) and is a TIPS Certified Trainer for Alcohol Education.   Lyons is the chair of the Dean of Students’ Office Staff Development Committee and the advisor for the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Xue Qin Wang

Xue Qin Wang

Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Student Services.

Wang (“Wong”)  was born and raised in Shanghai, China. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Mathematic in 2005, and a Master of Education with concentration in Higher Education Administration in 2008. Both from the University of New Orleans. Before his current role as the Assistant Dean of Students, Wang served FGCU as the Programming Coordinator and the Programming Board Advisor for two years.  He has higher education experiences from his previous institutions in areas includes judicial affairs, disability services, leadership development, orientation, international services, union management, accreditation, and the Office of the President. Wang is an active member of NASPA and is currently serving the association as the Technology Chair on the NASPA FL State Board
