Judicial Council
A stimulating and rewarding leadership opportunity for the residents of North Lake Village is the Housing Judicial Council. Recruitment for council members takes place in September. The council meets twice a week and participants of the Council benefit by having the opportunity to learn more about the code of conduct, the judicial process, to take on a leadership role, and to be a voice for students within our housing community. Council members also receive a valuable experience and service learning hours for their participation.
Residents who serve on the council are responsible for making fair and impartial decisions related to policy violations within Housing. Students who are accused of violating our policies have the opportunity to choose between an administrative hearing or a hearing before the council. When a student selects the council hearing, the council members will read the violation report, listen to the student's side of the story, determine if the student is responsible for the violation, and if so, assign sanctions (educational assignments, community service, written warnings, restitution, etc.).
The Council is intended to provide a peer-level hearing body that is aware of and sensitive to the student and the community's needs and problems. The Judicial Council is just one more way that we are committed to creating and sustaining a living environment for students that is conducive to learning and personal growth.
