FGCU students are not required to live on campus; therefore the application process is separate from the admissions application. In order to be considered for on-campus housing, students are required to submit a Housing Agreement for the period requested and include a $50.00 (non-refundable) application fee. Although a student may apply prior to being admitted to the university, the housing application must include the University ID number issued by the Admissions Office in order for it to be processed.
Students are encouraged to apply early for on-campus housing because demand is high and space is limited. It is important to note that submitting a Housing Agreement does not guarantee a space in on-campus housing, room type, specific room or building, living options or roommate requests. Students cannot be assigned a space prior to being admitted to the university.
Application Process
1. Student submits a Housing Application/Agreement and a $50.00 (non-refundable) application fee. Please review and retain the Terms and Conditions for your files. The Fall 2008-Spring 2009 housing priority deadline for new students is February 15, 2008.
Mail to:
Office of Housing & Residence Life
12101 FGCU Lake Parkway East
Fort Myers, FL 33965
2. Notification of receipt of the application is mailed to the student (applications will be returned for the following reason: agreement is not signed, no application fee is provided, University ID is missing, filled out incorrectly or incomplete).
3. Student room assignment will be made based on application criteria during corresponding assignments period (June for Fall 2008, April for Summer A/C, May/June for Summer B). *
4. Student is notified of assignment or waitlist status depending on availability. Notification is done in the form of postal mail and/or email. It is important that the student ensure that all address information is up to date with the university.
5. If waitlisted, student is communicated with periodically on updated waitlist status or of assignment once assigned. Communication will occur by postal mail and/or email.
*Many considerations are made in the assignments process. Application priority date is how applicants are prioritized. However roommate requests, room type requests and special interest housing requests all influence how applications are processed.
All current residents participate in a separate process for housing assignments referred to as Returning Student Signup. Current Residents interested in housing for Fall 2008/Spring 2009 will be provided information regarding the returning student signup process mid-February 2008.
