Exchange Visitor Program - J Visa

The Exchange Visitor Program is a program of the US Department of State, authorized under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, also known as the Fulbright-Hays Act.  Its purpose is to enhance understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational and cultural exchanges.  Universities use this program to develop reciprocating exchanges with institutions abroad, to host foreign nationals for academic programs and training, and to invite experts from outside the US to engage in collaborative research, instruction and related educational and cultural exchange experiences.   Florida Gulf Coast University is a designated sponsor for this program. 

FGCU departments may request to sponsor a foreign national student, researcher, lecturer, specialist under this program.   Exchange visitors are classified as either Scholar or Student, and both are granted J visas.  This program is governed by very specific regulations, requirements and procedures, therefore, please be sure to thoroughly read the information and forms provided.  Please view the following links for detailed information and instructions.  If you need additional information or assistance, please contact our office at: (239) 590-7925.
