Is Eagle View Orientation mandatory?
Yes. Eagle View Orientation is FGCU's new student orientation program, and is mandatory for all incoming FTIC and transfer students. Orientation offers many events designed to acquaint you with the resources available to assist you at Florida Gulf Coast University. In addition, attending orientation is the only way you will be eligible to meet with an advisor and register for courses.
Can I be exempt from Orientation?
No. Orientation is mandatory for all new students.
The ONLY exception is Distance Learning Students (who are taking 100% of their courses online for their entire collegiate career at FGCU, due to their choice of major), who are not required to attend Eagle View Orientation. If you meet this criteria, please call the EVO office at (239) 590-7957 for further information so that you may register for your courses.
Is there an on-line orientation option?
No. At this time there is no on-line orientation program. New students must attend an orientation session on campus and in person, which is the best way to learn your way around campus, interact with university staff, and get your questions answered.
I am an out of state student; do I have to attend orientation?
Yes. If the expense of travelling to Florida presents some signficant issues for you and/or your family, give us a call and we can discuss the program options that might best fit your needs. For example, there are program dates immediately prior to the start of each semester that would allow you to attend orientation without having to travel to Florida a second time to move your belongings.
Where do I get a parking pass to attend Eagle view Orientation?
Follow these instructions:
How do I get to the right place for the program?
From the main campus entrance, simply follow the signs to the location of program check-in for orientation. While you can park in any parking garage on campus or any student parking lot with displayed parking pass on car dashboard, Parking Garage 3 is the designated lot for EVO.
What should I wear?
You will be doing some walking around campus during the program, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes. We highly recommend bringing a sweater (meeting rooms can be cold), and an umbrella as well!
Does it matter which Eagle View Orientation I attend?
If you are admitted for the summer term and plan to register for summer classes it is important to choose an orientation date prior to the beginning of summer classes (see academic calendar). Class registration occurs at orientation and class availability may be determined by the session you choose. The earlier you can attend EVO, the more flexibility you will have in your course options and section times.
How do I change my Eagle View Orientation date?
NOTE: Changing your orientation date will not require you to pay an additional fee. However, CANCELING your orientation date will require you to pay the entire orientation fee a second time if you reapply for another orientation date.
How do I find out what orientation date I am confirmed for?
* Confirmations are not sent through email. The student must login into Gulfline in order to get the confirmation and the parking pass.
I've decided that I want to change my major. How can I do this?
You will have the opportunity to change your major during orientation. There is no need to re-submit your orientation reservation or call the office.
I know I have to stay in the residence hall, but where can my family stay?
We do not provide overnight accommodations for parents, guests, or transfer students. Individuals needing to stay overnight in Fort Myers will need to secure hotel reservations. For a list of local hotels please see the Lodging link.
How do I get to FGCU?
Get Directions to FGCU.
How much does orientation cost?
The cost of orientation varies depending upon the session you were admitted and if you are an FTIC (attending a two-day program) or transfer student. When you complete the online reservation form, you will see a screen that indicates your orientation cost. All fees will be assessed to the student's account. You must pay the orientation fee online by credit card in order to complete the registration process. Remember: ALL Orientation fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
How do I pay for orientation?
Orientation reservations are made online only. An online credit or debit card payment for orientation fees is due at the time of registration in order to reserve an orientation date and complete the registration process.
If I don't attend Eagle View Orientation, can I get a refund?
No. University policy requires that ALL fees associated with university services (e.g. admission, housing, orientation) are NON-REFUNDABLE once they have been processed. Please read all of your registration materials and contracts carefully before signing/submitting anything.
