I discovered that I have a commitment on one of the days of my program. Can I leave early?
No. If students miss any segment of the orientation program, they will not be properly prepared for course registration; therefore, they must attend both days of the program in their entirety. When you register for orientation, please be sure to choose a session that will allow you to attend both days in full.
What do we do at orientation?
At orientation, students will register for classes, meet and interact with other new students, get their Eagle IDs, and learn about financial aid, meal plans, phone service, housing, how to get involved on campus...and more! For more information see the .
Is there anything I have to do before I attend orientation?
How do I get my Eagle View Orientation parking pass on Gulfline?
Follow these instructions:
How long does FTIC orientation last?
Summer and Fall FTIC orientations last two full days, until approximately 5:30 p.m. (at the latest) on the second day. Spring FTIC orientation sessions are one day in length and last until approximately 4 p.m. For more information please see the .
What do I need to bring to orientation?
FTIC students attending a Summer or Fall orientation session should bring comfortable clothing and shoes, a swimsuit & beach towel (for evening activities), an alarm clock, and an umbrella. We provide you with linens, a pillow, blanket, toilet paper, and soap for your overnight in the residence hall.
FTIC students attending a Spring orientation session should wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and bring an umbrella, a pen and paper, and a sweater (meeting rooms can be cold).
All students should bring money for lunch(es) to eat on campus. These meals are not provided during orientation.
I live in the area. Do I still have to spend the night on campus?
It is mandatory for FTIC students (freshmen) to spend the night on campus during EVO. Our Orientation Leaders plan activities to help students get to know each other. Staying overnight is a great way to get acquainted with your new classmates and see what it's like to live on-campus. It also gives you a short commute on the second day of orientation! Failure to spend the night may cause your class registration to be blocked until you attend a full 2-day session (and an overnight stay).
What is on the Math Placement Test?
The Math Placement Test used at FGCU is the Accuplacer Course Placement Test (CPT), which is an online test that focuses on basic algebra skills. For sample elementary algebra questions see page 6, for college level math see pages 7 & 8 within this PDF file. To determine which math placement test you may be taking at orientation click here.
I scored high on my math ACT or SAT. Do I still need to take the math placement test?**
For information about math placement testing, math course enrollment criteria, and to determine which math placement test you may be taking at orientation click here.
**If you have accelerated credit for math from Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) or Dual Enrollment, be sure to inform an academic counselor at orientation.
When do I register for classes?
During orientation you will meet with an academic advisor and have the opportunity to register for classes. To prepare for advising and registration, follow the steps on the First Year Advising Website.
