DSST (DANTES)
The dsst
TM (“DSST”) Program (formerly DANTES Program) is a credit-by-examination
testing program provided by Thomson Prometric TM . Colleges, universities,
and corporations use DSSTs to measure knowledge in a particular subject
area. Based on the achievement of a passing examination score, candidates
can receive college credit or continuing education credit to speed
themselves to competency and life changing credentials. Each establishment
determines its passing scores for each DSST.
The DSST
Program offers 37 test titles in a wide range of college-level academic,
technical, and business subjects. Some of the tests are subjects that
people may have been introduced to through a hobby or special interest,
e.g., astronomy, anthropology, and art. Some of the tests cover material
people have learned on the job, e.g., financial accounting, banking,
personnel supervision, and law enforcement. Non-traditional returning adult
students and corporate trainees, in addition to military members, now use
DSSTs on a regular basis.
- DSSTs allow students to earn valuable college
credits for life experiences
- DSSTs provide flexible education options
- There is an increased need for employees of
corporations who cannot attend classes full-time, to update their
skills and knowledge for current employment or for a change in career.
- Corporate sponsorship of DSSTs enables employees to
get college credit by examination and extends their professional
development efforts.
A Fact
Sheet is available for each examination. It lists the test specifications,
offers a description of the test content and sample questions typical of
those encountered on the test, and provides the American Council on
Education's recommended minimum passing scores and credit awards. Fact
Sheets can be downloaded from www.getcollegecredit.com
.
The DSST

at Florida Gulf Coast University .
