FBAT

Florida Gulf Coast University Testing Center contracts with Miami-Dade College to administer the Florida Basic Abilities Test (F-BAT) needed by law enforcement, corrections and probation officers.   There are three (3) separate F-BAT exams:

  • Law Enforcement (LEBAT)
  • Corrections (COBAT)
  • Probation (PROBAT)

The F-BAT can be taken here at FGCU Monday through Thursday between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. The test takes approximately two hours and the cost is $54.00. F-BAT exams are web-based. There are 104 questions, 13 questions per ability. The abilities are: deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, information ordering, memorization, problem sensitivity, spatial orientation, written comprehension and written expression. Test results are available to the examinee immediately following the conclusion of the exam.
The passing scores are:
LEBAT  71%
COBAT 77%
PROBAT 67%

RETEST POLICY
The first time an examinee fails a test, he/she must wait 30 days from the date of the exam to retest.  The second time an examinee fails a test; he/she must wait 90 days from the date of the exam to re-test. An examinee can only complete a test three times in one calendar year.
Test results are valid for four years from the date of the test.

*Please note that the Miami Dade College FBAT Department sends the official FBAT test results electronically to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The FBAT Department does not send results to individual state agencies. Please contact the FBAT Department at 1-800-237-8910 if you have any questions.

STUDY GUIDES
Study Guides may be purchased at the FGCU Testing Center for $31.80 and may be paid with debit/credit, cash, check or money order.  Study Guides are also available for purchase online and can be shipped to you for $35.30. REGISTRATION

You may register for the FBAT online, through the mail or in person.

If you would like to register through the mail, please follow the directions below:

 

1.       Print the downloadable form shown below.

2.      Complete the form, answering all questions

3.      Your test fee is $54: $24 is paid upon registration and $30 is due at the time of your test.  Once you have scheduled a test date, if you do not report for the test your $24 fee is nonrefundable.

4.      Mail your completed form and $24 check (payable to FGCU Testing) to:

5.       In 2-3 days, call the Testing Center to schedule your test (239-590-7955).

6.      Remember to bring your $30 remaining balance with you the day of your test.  Can be paid by check, cash, or credit card (check payable to: FGCU Testing).
