GREAT PROGRAMS!!

Become a Peer Counselor-Educator!

Peers CARE is the heart and soul of Prevention & Wellness.  Peers develop and staff wellness events, present outreach programs, and staff our drop-in center.  If you have an interest in wellness, developing public speaking skills, contributing creatively to FGCU, or helping your fellow students, Peers CARE may be for you.  Drop by the office for an application!

The Prevention Extension

Look for our blue and white gazebo in front of the Wellness building -- there will be great info and give-aways for you!  The Prevention extension gazebo will be out every Wednesday for the first six weeks of school, and every other week after that.  Stop by over lunch!

HIV Counseling and Testing

During the school year, PWS offers free HIV counseling and testing at the Eagles Landing office Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 pm.  A nurse and certified HIV educator will be available to talk with students about HIV and related concerns as well as administer the OraSure HIV antibody test (this is a mouth swab--NO NEEDLES!)  This is a free service - just come by and take a number.

Outreach Programs

Need a speaker on a wellness topic for your residence hall, class, or student group?  We can do it!  PWS presents fun interactive education programs on topics like sexual health, alcohol and drug issues, nutrition, stress management, and other topics -- let us know what you're thinking and we'll help!

Wellness Events

PWS develops great events for FGCU! In the fall, you can look forward to the Campus and Community Health and Wellness Fair, National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week speaker, Great American Smoke Out, and World AIDS Day.  In the Spring you can get your Condom Valentines, get cool stuff at Safe Spring Break Send Off, and other events.

HOURS:

Students are always welcome to drop in!

In Wellness 102 and Eagles Landing 102, any time the door is open, we are available to talk with you about your emotional and physical wellness questions and concerns.  Our hours are posted by each office door.  Generally, during the school year, Wellness 102 is open from 9 to 5 weekdays, and Eagles Landing is open from 1-8 M-Th and 9-5 on Friday.  We do close the office when we are out on campus doing programs or events, so please call ahead if you would like to meet a staff member at a specific time.

For more information about PWS, contact Priya Thomas, Director of PWS, at 590-7733 or 590-7685, or visit one of our offices.
