Planning Your Time
You will have approximately 1
hour in which to write this essay. Thus, you want to make certain that you plan
your time so that you can engage in an abbreviated writing process. One you
have decided which topic you will develop you should do the following:
- Spend 5-10 minutes PREWRITING. Brainstorm the points you will make
and the examples you will use to support those points. See also pages 8-10
of The CLAST Study Guide.
- Spend 5-10 minutes PLANNING. Write your thesis and think about the
order in which you will present and develop your points. See also page 16
of of The CLAST Study Guide.
- Spend 20-35 minutes WRITING. Be certain that you write legibly
because you will not have time to rewrite.
- Spend 5-10 minutes REVIEWING. Reread you work. Check for misspelled
words, omitted words, or confusing places. Note that while you may insert
a word or two, it is not advisable to attempt to insert lengthy sentences
or new ideas. This is why it is important that you spend time planning
because you do not have time to revise on the CLAST.
