Mission Statement: The mission of the Eagle's Wing Mentoring Program at Florida Gulf Coast University is to provide academic mentorship and a positive role model to the students of FGCU. The purpose of Eagle's Wing is to provide leadership, guidance, and support to students through a mentoring relationship.

Does mentoring make a difference in the life of a student?

YES! Education Benefits:

A 1994 study showed that mentored students remained in school longer and had stronger academic performance than students who were not mentored. Students reported that their involvement with a mentor made a positive difference in their personal lives. The guidance of a mentor helped them to be more creative in resolving personal and in making informed decisions.

YES! Louis Harris Poll (1989)

73% students said their mentors helped them raise their goals and expectations.

59% of mentored students improved their grades.

87% of mentoring students said they benefited in some way from their mentoring relationship

YES! 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class 1995, P&G

A 1988 Proctor & Gamble study on their mentoring programs in Cincinnati Schools, 133 young people with mentors were more likely to stay in school.

In this study not one student with a mentor dropped out of school – additionally, average daily attendance was higher among mentored students!
