Welcome to Prevention and Wellness

Prevention & Wellness Services (PWS) is dedicated to enriching the emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness of the FGCU community.  Many programs are provided through PWS, including Peers CARE (Counseling, Advocacy, and Real-world Education), a walk-in center with access to on-line health and wellness programs, outreach programs to the campus community regarding various health issues, and a resource area for health information.

Generally, during the school year, our office is open 9am-5pm weekdays. Students can walk in to speak with our staff, pick up some free information, ask about resources, inquire about a program or check out what upcoming events we may have. Visitors are always welcome and we look forward to seeing you!

For more information about Prevention & Wellness, contact Priya Thomas, Director of PWS, at 590-7733 or 590-7685, or visit our office in the Wellness Center, right-hand side of the building!

GREAT PROGRAMS!!

Resource Area Available

Prevention & Wellness has created a resource area for the campus community right in their lobby. Faculty, staff or students can walk-in anytime during business hours and access our collection of brochures on a variety of wellness topics, including sexual health, nutrition, relationships, alcohol and tobacco. Handouts, fliers, program announcements and free items are also available in this area. You are welcome to peruse on your own, no appointment needed, or ask for help from someone at our desk. Our staff can also point you in the direction of on-line resources.

Become a Peer Educator; join Peers CARE!

Peers CARE stands for Counseling Advocacy and Real-world Education. It is a peer education program where undergraduates develop their leadership skills and receive training on various wellness topics to help their campus community. Peers develop and staff wellness events, present outreach programs, promote P&W projects and support department initiatives.  If you have an interest in wellness, developing public speaking skills, contributing creatively to FGCU, or helping your fellow students, Peers CARE may be for you.  Email Prevention & Wellness for more information, pws@fgcu.edu

The Prevention & Wellness Gazebo

Look for our blue and white gazebo in front of the Wellness building -- there will be great info and give-aways for you!  A different wellness topic is featured at each gazebo, which is out every Wednesday for the first six weeks of school, and every other week after that.  The hours are 11am -2pm so stop by over lunch!

Programming

Need a program on a wellness topic for your residence hall, class, or student group?  We can do it!  P&W presents fun interactive education programs on topics like sexual health, alcohol and drug issues, nutrition, stress management, and other topics -- let us know what you're thinking and we'll help!

Wellness Events

P&W develops great events for FGCU! In the fall, you can look forward to the Campus and Community Health and Wellness Fair, National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week speaker, Great American Smoke Out, and World AIDS Day.  In the spring you can get your Condom Valentines, get cool stuff at Safe Spring Break Send Off, and other events.
